Providing support to causes in the communities where Continental Carbon operates is an important responsibility – beyond providing a place to work, these cities and towns are where our employees, suppliers and customers live and play.
Today, the communities in which we are located are challenged to meet many different needs, calling for individuals, businesses and other organizations to pick areas where each can make a difference. We have chosen to support organizations that address education and health. We believe that strength in these two areas is important in making our communities successful.
We are honored to help support groups and organizations that focus on these areas, such as the Houston Breast Cancer Walk and The Family Center.
Continental Carbon employees have been a part of the Making Strides event in Houston since its inception. The company initially decided to support the walk to honor a former employee whose life was ended abruptly by the disease. Since that inaugural walk, employees choose each year to honor either an employee or family member who has dealt with cancer or is a cancer survivor.
For the past 11 years, United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley has conducted an annual “Day of Caring” event, in which teams of employees from leading local companies volunteer for a day at a United Way-Funded Partner Agency.
Several volunteers from Continental Carbon’s Phenix City facility recently chose to give their time to The Family Center, working with the staff to spruce-up their facility. On the to-do list was repair and staining of the Center’s outdoor deck and furniture. This shaded outdoor area is used extensively by volunteers, staff and others involved in the Center’s work for breaks, meetings and brief quiet times.
Deciding to assist The Family Center was an easy call for the volunteers – this was the third year that Continental Carbon selected The Family Center as the recipient of the Phenix City team’s time and energies.
